
Bill Belsey loves to swim. He learned to swim when he was a boy, going to YMCA Camp in the summer. He has swum 1,000 meters almost daily for pleasure and fitness at the Jayman Aquatic Centre since it opened in July 2017, at the Spray Lake Sawmills Recreation Centre in Cochrane, Alberta.

Mr. Belsey is a professional educator with over forty years of experience as a teacher. Mr Belsey earned a Bachelor’s of Arts and a Bachelor’s of Education from Canada’s prestigious Queen’s University.

Mr Belsey is Canada’s most-awarded educator. Among many accolades, he is a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his many contributions to education in Canada.


Mr Belsey is well-qualified to be your personal Swim Instructor. He is First-Aid (intermediate) Certified. He is also certifed with CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resusitation) and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training. Mr Belsey has earned his Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross as well as the Swimming Instructor Certification from the Lifesaving Society.


Mr Belsey is CMAS and NAUI SCUBA certified. He also has his Watercraft/Boating Operator certification.
